This document contains Sections 3708–3717 and Chapters 38–43 of the 1935-miami-dade-building-code, detailing regulations for heating systems, fire extinguishing apparatus, stage construction, motion picture booths, and fire-resistive standards.

Heating and Fuel Systems

The code specifies strict clearance and protection requirements for various heating appliances, aligning with heating-system-clearance-and-protection. Low-pressure steam heating plants must rest on masonry or reinforced concrete floors and be protected by asbestos (p. 265). Large boilers require significant clearances from combustible materials, with specific ventilation requirements to prevent temperatures from exceeding 125°F (p. 265). Stoves using solid or liquid fuel must be supported at least 12 inches above wood floors and protected by metal and asbestos pads (p. 265). Gas ranges and domestic water heaters require shielding for combustible materials within 6 inches and clearance from wood ceilings (p. 265-266). Commercial gas ranges in restaurants and hotels have similar but stricter shielding requirements for partitions and ceilings (p. 266). Oil burners must comply with national-board-of-fire-underwriters regulations (p. 266). Warm air ducts must be constructed of bright tin or galvanized iron, with specific sizing rules based on room cubic capacity and insulation requirements using asbestos paper or double-walled construction (p. 267-268).

Solar Heaters

Solar water heaters must adhere to solar-heater-construction-standards. They must be constructed of rust-resisting materials such as galvanized iron (p. 268). Coil boxes must be anchored to galvanized angle iron supports, and tanks must be designed for 100-pound pressure and tested to 150 hydrostatic pressure (p. 268). Insulation around tanks must be at least 5 inches of cork to minimize heat loss (p. 269).

Fire Extinguishing Apparatus

automatic-sprinkler-installation-requirements mandate that automatic sprinklers are required in basements of buildings in fire-zones No. 1, in group-a-occupancy-requirements (theaters), and in specific industrial settings like planing mills and mattress factories (p. 269-270). Sprinkler systems must comply with national-board-of-fire-underwriters regulations (p. 270). standpipe-system-regulations require standpipes in Group A, B, and C buildings of any height and other groups four or more stories high (p. 271). Standpipes must be equipped with Siamese connections for fire department use and outlets on each floor (p. 271-272). Basement pipe inlets are required in stores and warehouses with basements, unless sprinklers are installed (p. 273).

Stage Construction

stage-fire-safety-construction regulations dictate that stage ventilators must be constructed of incombustible materials and open automatically via fusible links at 160°F (p. 272). Gridirons and fly galleries must support 75 pounds per square foot and be accessible by metal stairs (p. 273). Proscenium walls must separate the stage from the auditorium with solid masonry of four-hour fire-resistive-construction-requirements in Group A and B buildings (p. 273-274). Stage floors must be Type I construction or heavy timbers covered with wood (p. 274). egress-and-exit-standards require exits from the stage to be at least 2 feet 6 inches wide (p. 274).

Motion Picture Machine Booths

motion-picture-booth-safety requires booths for motion picture machines using inflammable films to be enclosed with one-hour fire-resistive construction and have a floor area of at least 50 square feet per machine (p. 275). Ports for projection and observation are limited in size and number, and must be covered with plate glass and protected by shutters operated by fusible links (p. 275-276). Booths must be ventilated with exhaust fans to change air every 10 minutes (p. 276). Films not in use must be stored in metal cabinets with self-closing doors (p. 276).

Proscenium Curtains

proscenium-curtain-specifications dictate that proscenium curtains must be made of asbestos cloth reinforced with metal wire and capable of closing in less than 30 seconds (p. 277-278). The curtain must be painted with mineral paint to prevent smoke passage (p. 278). Operating equipment includes steel guides, counter-weights, and safety chains (p. 279-280). Curtains must be tested and approved by the building-inspector before use (p. 280).

Fire-Resistive Standards

fire-resistive-construction-requirements are defined by ratings of one, two, three, or four hours, based on american-society-for-testing-materials standards (p. 281). Fire-resistive materials include brick, concrete, gypsum, metal, and asbestos (p. 281). Construction must be solidly bedded and bonded, with reinforcement for plaster protection on steel members (p. 282). Thickness requirements for fire protection of structural parts are specified in tables (p. 282).
